NYsoundCircuit 2021-22 Season

NYsoundCircuit announces its 2021-22 season! Two shows will feature violinist KINGA AUGUSTYN, flutist ROBERT DICK, ensembles IKTUS PERCUSSION and the COMPCORD ENSEMBLE, NYsoundCircuit resident sinfonietta RESONANT REFRACTIONS under the direction of Ian Shafer, fashion performance artist YUNRAY, comic illustrator HAZEL NEWLEVANT, wearableArt designer NANA YAASERWAAH AKUOKU, and artist JEVIJOE VITUG. NYsoundCircuit 9.1: RENEWAL is on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at The Secret Theatre in Queens and NYsoundCircuit 9.2: PIPE MIX is on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Church of the Holy Apostles in Chelsea.

Highlights: Musical highlights of the season will include Kinga Augustyn’s unique program of unaccompanied solo violin music by composers with Latin American roots and the New York premiere of Robert Dick’s Concerto for flute/bass flute, strings, and percussion. On the visual side, Hazel Newlevant will be showing the original art from their graphic novella Sugar Town. And after having been presented digitally last year, wearableArt designer Nana YaaSerwaah Akuoku presents a live performance of rhythm and poetry while dressed in HAUS OF YBA wearable Art. Headlining artist, Kinga Augustyn will perform a unique program of unaccompanied solo violin music by Astor Piazzolla, Icli Zitella, and Grażyna Bacewicz. Iktus Percussion will perform works by Elizabeth Hoffman and Angélica Negron, with students from the SUNY Purchase contemporary ensemble. Resonant Refractions perform works by James Diaz, Mohammed Fairouz, Linus Ip, & Moon Young Ha. YunRay will present “Farewell to Myself” which consists of a long see-through container with soil in it, and YunRay, the performer, will bury a whole set of outfits and perform a traditional Buddhist funeral with chanting and prayer. Hazel Newlevant will be showing the original art from their graphic novella Sugar Town, in a unique display designed to showcase their double-sided page inking technique.

Legendary experimental flutist Robert Dick returns to NYsoundCircuit, this time to perform the New York premiere of his Concerto for flute/bass flute, strings and percussion with Resonant Refractions and members of the CompCord Ensemble. Robert will also perform other solo works from his catalog along with music by Melissa Keeling. The CompCord Ensemble will perform an eclectic set of music featuring compositions by Lynn Bechtold, Dan Cooper, Ginka Mizuki, Max Pollak, and Gene Pritsker. And Resonant Refractions will present large ensemble and chamber orchestra works by Jennifer Higdon, Gilbert Galindo, and Clifton Joey Guidry. WearableArt designer Nana YaaSerwaah Akuoku will present a live performance of rhythm and poetry while dressed in HAUS OF YBA wearable art, visual artist Jevijoe Vitug will also be featured, and DJ & vocalist Senerio will bookend the event.
